This is my very first blog on my website, uploaded a few months back. As you can see, I have been quite tardy. Facing a blank page is as intimidating as facing a blank canvas. I really don’t know how or where to begin so let me begin by introducing myself. Although I’m a self taught, septuagenarian artist dabbling in all media, I paint more like a child, as the images my mind conjures up relate more to something prompted from my childhood. When I started to paint seriously in 2013, the very first image I did was that of an owl so, in 2014 and 2015, I painted a whole series of them. That is not to say that I had never painted anything before in my life. I had, as a hobby. I even had a successful show in 1980 but life happened and I could never engage with my passion till thirty three years later!
Beginning with water colour I have experimented with acrylics, gouache, acrylic gouache, inks and soft pastels. I have even ordered a box of water mixable oil paints that I have still to open but, somehow, I have fallen in love with soft pastels & their close cousin, pan pastels. This is where I’m at right now. Having started with the figurative I find myself more and more drawn to landscapes – perhaps, because, having lived in a city like Delhi for most of my adult life, I miss the beautiful, verdant spaces of my childhood.
I hope to blog often and share my journey with you, as a kind of validation. Nothing is more precious than a journey with company that encourages conversation. I hope to start one with you!
